WAEC Extends Registration Deadline for CB-WASSCE Private Candidates to September 19

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced an extension of the registration deadline for the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates.
Originally scheduled to close on September 5, the registration window will now remain open until Friday, September 19, 2025.
This update was shared via WAEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, where the council encouraged all prospective candidates who have yet to complete their registration to seize the extended opportunity.
The statement read: “The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2025—Second Series, has been extended to Friday, September 19, 2025. All prospective candidates are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The extension has been received positively, particularly by candidates who needed more time to finalize their registration. However, discussions around WAEC’s transition from manual to computer-based examinations continue to generate mixed reactions.
While some education stakeholders welcome the shift as a step toward modernization and efficiency, others remain sceptical about the accessibility of the digital system for students in areas with limited infrastructure.
The 2025 CB-WASSCE for private candidates is the second series of the year, and it marks another milestone in WAEC’s efforts to integrate technology into examination processes across West Africa.
