UNICAL: VC Pays Unscheduled Visit to MassComm New Site, Charge Contractor To Deliver On Time

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has visited the construction site for Mass Communication. The visit which was unscheduled by the Vice-Chancellor was said that it was intended to ascertain the level of work thus far in the site.
The new building which is adjacent to the University Conference Center and opposite to the Department of Theatre Arts and Media Studies is said that when completed, it’ll accommodate the various departments in the new faculty of Mass communication.
The building which has been described by some persons as a “state of the art in waiting” has a radio studio, television studio, photo lab, newsrooms, a conference hall, offices, and other admirable features.
In a reaction, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Head of the Department, Prof. Okugor and his team for their support thus far as a department while charging the contractor to deliver on time.
According to her, “While I commend you as a department for your support thus far, I want to charge the contractor to deliver the job speedily and effectively. We are awaiting the completion and commissioning of this project”.
In his reaction, the Head of the Department, Prof. Okugor lauded the Vice-Chancellor for her love and commitment to the department saying, the project when completed will be the best of its kind in the whole South-South and South-Eastern Universities in Nigeria.
The HOD however went further to render enconium on the VC describing her as an ‘Ogbuagu 1’ which means “a brave one or one that has brought an honour”.
Furthermore, Prof. Okugor who was overjoyed says the quintessential Vice-Chancellor has done excellently in terms of motivation, support, and leadership. According to him, “VC has provided us with a direction that has brought about peaceful coexistence in the department hence, she’s an erudite communicator”.

The HOD also thanked the Vice-Chancellor for being proactive as the senate has granted the department the approval to commence postgraduate programs and for providing the department with great inspiration most recently gathered from her visit to Bayero University while pledging to keep supporting her to achieve her objectives maximally.
