New Civil Engineering President at Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda Unveils Bold 10-Point Agenda

The newly elected President of the Department of Civil Engineering Technology under the Nigerian Association of Civil Engineering Students (NACES) at Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Engr. Mansur Kabir Hassan, has outlined a bold and structured 10-point vision aimed at transforming student experience, boosting academic excellence, and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
In his official address to the department, Engr. Hassan — widely known as Engr. Makhass — reaffirmed his commitment to leadership rooted in service, collaboration, and practical impact. Quoting one of his mentors, he stated:
“A mentor once told me, ‘Engr. Mansur, if you want to make everyone happy, don’t be a leader — be an engineer.’ Today, I tell my fellow students the same. I am not just an ordinary leader. I am an engineer — one who works for progress, for people, and for purpose.”
A Student-Centered Agenda
His 10-point plan focuses on both academic and practical development, clearly defining areas where students can expect support and reform:
- Organizing Tutorial Classes: Committed and brilliant students will be selected to conduct peer-led tutorials to help reduce exam failure rates and improve academic outcomes.
- Emphasis on CAD and Design Skills: A renewed focus will be placed on digital drawing tools, structural detailing, and architectural design, particularly for students with access to laptops or digital resources.
- Empowering Future Site Engineers: Training will be offered on core site engineering practices such as setting out and basic fieldwork essential for real-world applications.
- Participation in Campus Construction Projects: Students will gain hands-on experience by engaging in ongoing construction projects on campus, serving in supervisory capacities under mentorship.
- Respect for Executive Roles: The president emphasized his commitment to non-interference in the roles of other executive council members, fostering mutual respect and effective collaboration.
- Working with Staff Leadership: The administration intends to carry out its duties with the full knowledge, approval, and support of the Head of Department, lecturers, and departmental staff.
- Collective Decision-Making: The president pledged to consult the executive council before making any major decisions, promoting unity and shared responsibility.
- Open Communication: Students were assured that their opinions and concerns would be acknowledged and considered in departmental decisions.
- Ongoing Policy Development: Additional strategies and initiatives will be introduced gradually, based on emerging needs and available resources.
- Support for Departmental Dues: He encouraged students to pay their departmental dues, stressing that such contributions are vital for funding impactful projects and services.
A Call for Unity and Commitment
Engr. Hassan concluded his message with a prayer for the progress of Nigerian students and a call for unity within the student body, the Students’ Union Government, and sister organizations such as NAPES and NACES.
“We are here to serve — with our energy, time, and personal resources. May Allah uplift the students of Nigeria and help us fulfill our mission.”
