Study in the USA: US Government Pledges Scholarships and Visa Support for Nigerian Students

The United States government has reaffirmed its commitment to helping Nigerian students gain access to quality education in American universities, offering opportunities for international scholarships, study abroad programs, and career-building experiences.

During the 2025 EducationUSA Fair in Abuja, U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Officer Brian Neubert encouraged Nigerian students to take advantage of the growing demand for U.S. higher education. The annual event, themed “Empowering Futures, Discover American Excellence in Education and Innovation,” connected students, parents, and academic counsellors with leading American universities eager to welcome international talent.

Expanding Study Abroad Opportunities

Neubert revealed that representatives from 28 top U.S. colleges and universities attended the fair to share valuable information on admission requirements, academic programs, and pathways to international scholarships. He highlighted that EducationUSA offers free counselling services to guide Nigerian students through every stage of their application, from choosing a university to preparing for U.S. student visa interviews.

“The United States is proud to partner with Nigeria in empowering students, who are the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” Neubert said. “EducationUSA brought these representatives here because they want to recruit Nigerian students to their campuses.”

Addressing the importance of compliance, Neubert urged prospective students to maintain their visa status responsibly once admitted to American universities. “As you consider your next steps, know that you are joining a long tradition of Nigerian students who have excelled in U.S. institutions and gone on to make remarkable contributions to their communities and beyond,” he added.
