Senator Almakura Drums Support For The Establishment Of Centre For Students With Special Needs

The immediate past visitor to Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and former governor of Nasarawa State, Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura has expressed his readiness to partner politically, socially, and financially towards the establishment of a support centre for students with special needs in the University.
Senator Almakura made the pledge on Wednesday 31st January 2024, when he hosted the management staff of the University led by the Vice-Chancellor at his Utako office in Abuja.


He promised to use his influence to bring onboard people with competence to make the centre cosmopolitan, he urged the management to ensure that the centre when established is administered by people with rudimentary knowledge in disability studies.
Senator Almakura who commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University for being a true reflection of the vision he had for the institution by advancing and expanding the frontiers of learning teaching and research also applauded him for the massive infrastructural development undertaken by his management.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed while highlighting the need for the establishment of the centre noted that the University was desirous of upscaling activities around disability management and education thereby packaging a hub which will be referred to as the “Support Centre for Students With Special Needs”. He further stated that the Centre when established will cater for the educational, moral, psychological, and social well-being of people with disabilities.
Present during the visit was the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for People Living With Disability Dr. James Lalu, world-renowned Professor of Disability, Professor Ishaya Guteng and some other management staff of the University.
