NELFUND Reopens Student Loan Portal for 2024/2025 Academic Session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the reopening of its student loan portal for a limited period to allow tertiary institutions that are yet to complete their student verification process to do so.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
According to the statement, the portal will be open from 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 12, and will close at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Oluwatuyi explained that this final extension aims to ensure that all eligible students are properly verified by their respective institutions as part of the ongoing 2024/2025 NELFUND loan application process.
She emphasized that institutions should take full advantage of this final opportunity to complete their verification exercise before the deadline.
“Failure to complete the verification process within the stipulated period will result in the affected institutions forfeiting participation in the current loan cycle. This will unfortunately deprive their students—who are the primary beneficiaries—of access to the education loan scheme,” Oluwatuyi stated.
She further noted that, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, the list of defaulting institutions would be made public after the portal closes.
Oluwatuyi reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to promoting equitable access to higher education through a transparent and inclusive management system.
“Our mission remains centered on ensuring that every qualified Nigerian student has access to financial assistance for tertiary education, regardless of their background. We are dedicated to maintaining integrity and fairness in administering this scheme,” she added.
The student loan portal, launched under the Federal Government’s new education financing initiative, aims to provide interest-free loans to eligible Nigerian students pursuing higher education across accredited institutions.
With this reopening, tertiary institutions are urged to act swiftly to avoid disqualifying their students from the 2024/2025 loan cycle.
