NAPS Hails Brig. Gen. Nafiu Olakunle’s Appointment as NYSC DG, Demands HND Part-Time Graduate Inclusion

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has congratulated Brigadier General Nafiu Olakunle on his recent appointment as the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on March 3, 2025, NAPS emphasized that Olakunle’s leadership comes at a crucial time for the NYSC, an institution vital for fostering national unity, youth engagement, and capacity building. The association expressed confidence in his ability to enhance the scheme’s impact on Nigerian graduates.
However, while celebrating the new NYSC DG, NAPS also urged him to address the long-standing issue of HND Part-Time graduates’ exclusion from NYSC mobilization. The association criticized the policy, stating that it has unfairly placed thousands of polytechnic students at a disadvantage despite their academic achievements and contributions to national development.
“We believe that every Nigerian graduate, regardless of their mode of study, deserves equal recognition and opportunities,” NAPS stated.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of polytechnic students nationwide. It also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the new NYSC leadership to ensure fair, inclusive, and beneficial policies for all.
NAPS concluded its statement by wishing Brig. Gen. Nafiu Olakunle a successful tenure, emphasizing the importance of progressive leadership in the NYSC.
