Misconceptions and Facts About NYSC Mobilization for Polytechnic Part-time STUDENTS

NAIJA POLYTECHNIC TV has identified some misconceptions about NYSC mobilization for polytechnic students. To set the record straight, here are the accurate facts about the current NYSC mobilization policy:

1. No NYSC Mobilization for Part-Time Graduates

If you obtained your ND through a part-time or evening program, you do not qualify for NYSC. This is regardless of whether you complete your HND full-time or regularize your admission through JAMB. As long as your ND was part-time or evening, you are ineligible for NYSC.

2. Implications for Current HNDII Full-Time Students with Part-Time ND Background

If you are currently in HNDII full-time but completed your ND through a part-time or evening program, you are not eligible for NYSC, even if you successfully regularize your admission through JAMB. What you will receive is an NYSC Exemption Certificate.

This applies to students graduating this year who have a part-time or evening ND background. Do not register on the NBTE portal. Upon graduation, you will receive an NYSC Exclusion Letter.

3. No Hope for Past Graduates with Part-Time ND

If you graduated last year or earlier and your ND was part-time, you are not eligible for NYSC if your JAMB registration number includes the “P” prefix. It is advised to accept your situation, collect your Exemption Certificate, and move on. This policy remains unchanged, especially for those who have already been issued an Exemption Certificate.

4. Hope for 2024/2025 Admitted Students

Students admitted in the 2024/2025 academic session with a part-time ND background may have a chance for NYSC mobilization next year. It is anticipated that the NBTE (National Board for Technical Education) might take over the mobilization of HND graduates starting in 2026. This provides some hope for students admitted in the 2024/2025 session onwards. However, note that this does not apply to students graduating in the 2024/2025 session; it applies only to those admitted during that period.

Students in HNDII with a part-time or evening ND background remain affected by this policy and are not eligible for NYSC.

5. Purpose of JAMB Regularization

JAMB regularization is meant to confirm your admission and make you eligible for the NYSC Exemption Certificate. It does not change your eligibility for full NYSC mobilization.

6. NBTE Portal Registration for 2024/2025 HND Admitted Students

While the introduction of the NBTE portal for the 2024/2025 academic session appears to be a positive development, it does not guarantee NYSC mobilization yet. Affected students admitted in the 2024/2025 session are encouraged to register on the NBTE portal, as it has been reported that mobilization might shift to NBTE starting in 2026.

7. Is There Any Hope for Affected Students in the Future?

For now, there is no hope for affected students under the current policy. The only course of action is to appeal to the appropriate authorities, particularly the government. Rectors of polytechnics have made several attempts through meetings to reverse this policy, but their efforts have been unsuccessful.

Students are encouraged to contact their senators and House of Representatives members to advocate for this issue. As it stands, this policy appears to be permanent, with no immediate plans for reversal.
