A polytechnic is a technical institution offering post-secondary technical education programmes leading to the award of diplomas/certificates such as the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). The products of these institutions will have entry level employment skills to function as technicians, higher technicians/technologists or professionals, depending on the level of training, in their fields of specialization. A polytechnic may also be involved in applied research and perform any other functions that its Council may require it to perform from time to time.

Polytechnic is one of the easiest tertiary institutions to gain admission to in Nigeria because the requirements are not as strict as similar institutions. A Polytechnic can offer Engineering, Business, Science and Technology, Agriculture, environmental and Professional courses as approved by the National board for Technical Education(NBTE)

In this Article we will list all the courses being offered by Nigerian polytechnics, that is, the courses that can only be studied in polytechnics. Sometimes, poly students do ask us if they can study medicine, law and other university courses in the polytechnic, some students are even confused as they don’t know the right course to choose. For instance, Journalism can be studied in a university but not available in Nigeria polytechnics, however students can still study Mass communication in polytechnic which is similar to journalism. 

We believe that this article will guide you through to know if you can study your desired course in polytechnics. There are about 110 courses that can be studied in polytechnics, but some schools only offer between 30 and 40 Courses at maximum. That is, it is possible for you to see some courses that are strange to you on the list, but they are all polytechnic courses just that not all polytechnics are approved to offer these courses.
