LIST OF POLYTECHNICS JOINING ASUP STRIKE BY POLYTV

It is no longer a news that The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has declared a nationwide strike starting from Monday 16th May 2022.

The  warning strike will last for two(2) weeks, that is, starting from Monday 16th May to Monday 30th May 2022. The two(2) weeks warning strike is to call on the attention of the federal government to implement the agreement signed with the union(ASUP) in 2021.

According to a statement released after the National Executive (NEC)  meeting on Wednesday 11th May 2022, ASUP blamed federal government for neglecting Polytechnic Education and not fulfilling the agreement in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with them in 2021 which include the release of 15bn revitalization fund.

Some of the reasons why the union are proceeding on the two(2) weeks warning strike are:

  • Delay in the appointment of rectors and the Appointment of process in kaduna Polytechnic, federal Polytechnic mubi, Adamawa State, federal Polytechnic offa, Kwara state and federal Polytechnic Ekowe, Bayelsa state.
  • Non Release of Arrears of CONTISS 15 Migration for the lower cadre. According to ASUP, this issue remains at the committee level and even in chapters like NILEST  Zaria in which implementation  is yet to commence
  • Non release of the scheme of service for Polytechnics since 2017
  • Victimization of union members in IMT ENUGU  and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic.

ASUP said further that, they have exhausted all their deliberations and means to see that Nigerian government addresses their demands which gave them no other choice than  to proceed on the two(2) weeks warning strike.

The Union appeal to Polytechnic students and  members of the Public to pressure federal government to do needful within the period of two(2) weeks as failure to do so will result to an indefinite strike.
