Kwara State Temporarily Relocates NYSC Orientation Camp Over Security Concerns

The Kwara State Government has announced the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to the Kwara State Polytechnic campus along Old Jebba Road, Ilorin.
This decision was made to address security concerns around the Yikpata camp and ensure the safety of prospective corps members arriving for the upcoming orientation exercise.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Joshua Onifade, explained that the move became necessary following recent developments that raised concerns about the security of the original camp location.
“The NYSC management appreciates the relentless efforts of the state government and various security agencies in tackling insecurity in some parts of the state. Temporarily relocating the orientation camp is aimed at easing the fears of prospective corps members, especially those visiting Kwara for the first time,” Onifade stated.
He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing the welfare and safety of corps members, describing the relocation as a proactive measure to protect participants during the three-week orientation programme.
Orientation Schedule Remains Unchanged
Despite the change of venue, the orientation course for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members will commence as planned on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. According to Onifade, about 1,800 corps members are expected to take part in the 21-day programme.
The Kwara State Government assured participants and their families that adequate security measures have been put in place at the new location to guarantee a smooth and safe exercise.
This temporary move underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding corps members while maintaining the NYSC’s tradition of national service and youth development.
