Kano Govt. Slashes Tuition Fees Of State Tertiary Institutions By Fifty Percent

In its bid to make education affordable for children of the poor, the Kano State Government has approved the reduction of tuition fees of all state owned tertiary institutions by fifty percent.
Governor Abba Yusuf said this on Friday during the airlifting of the third batch of two hundred and fifty first class students of the state who are proceeding for their postgraduate studies to India out of the one thousand and one scheme recently flagged off by the state government.
The intention of the state government to offer foreign scholarships to its indigenes that made first class during their undergraduate studies is to build their capacity and make them global citizens.
While Aisha Lamido, a medical doctor is excited about going to India for her postgraduate studies in clinical research, Amina Yunisa, a Pharmacist is not happy that she would be leaving her family back in Nigeria.
Despite the nostalgic feelings being expressed by some of the students, the state governor, Abba Yusuf who is represented by the commissioner for higher education says, as another two hundred and fifty scholars depart Nigeria on studies, his administration has also slashed the tuition fees of students across the state’s owned tertiary institution to encourage more enrolment.
Political appointees in Governor Yusuf’s government believe that the Kwankwasiya model of leadership is the hope for Education in Kano State.
