Federal Polytechnic Ohodo Seeks Strategic Partnership With Catholic Diocese of Nsukka to Boost Technical Education

The management of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo (FEDPOD), Enugu State, has strengthened efforts to expand access to quality technical and vocational education by seeking a strategic partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.
The institution’s leadership, headed by the Rector, Dr. Ediri Emmanuel Agada, paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Nsukka on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The visit focused on building collaboration that will support the Polytechnic’s educational mission and increase public awareness of its academic opportunities.
During the meeting, Dr. Agada described Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, which was established in 2021 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, as one of Nigeria’s rapidly developing federal tertiary institutions. He said the Polytechnic remains committed to delivering quality education through technical and vocational training designed to prepare students for today’s competitive workforce.
The Rector highlighted the institution’s accredited academic programmes, including Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, as well as National Diploma (ND) programmes in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, Public Administration, and Accountancy. He also disclosed that the institution is preparing for the accreditation of about ten additional academic programmes as part of its expansion plans.
According to Dr. Agada, the Polytechnic has assembled a team of highly qualified academic staff comprising lecturers with Master’s and Doctoral degrees, while continuing to improve the quality of teaching and learning. He also noted that many students have benefited from the Federal Government’s Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), making higher education more accessible to deserving candidates. In addition, he revealed that the institution has successfully graduated its first set of students, marking another important milestone in its growth.
Appealing for the Diocese’s support, the Rector encouraged the Church to help create awareness about the institution among prospective students and their families. He explained that candidates seeking admission into the 2026/2027 academic session are eligible to apply with a minimum JAMB score of 100 and at least five relevant O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
He further pointed to recent policy changes by the Federal Government that have simplified academic progression for Polytechnic graduates. According to him, the removal of the JAMB Direct Entry requirement for National Diploma holders pursuing university admission has created additional opportunities for students to continue their education without unnecessary barriers.
Dr. Agada also expressed the institution’s interest in working closely with the Catholic Diocese by promoting Federal Polytechnic Ohodo’s programmes through the Diocese’s communication platforms, including its official bulletin.
In his response, Bishop Godfrey Igwebuike Onah welcomed the delegation and commended the steady growth of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo since its establishment. He described the institution as an important educational asset capable of contributing significantly to the development of the region and the country at large.
The Bishop encouraged the Polytechnic to maintain strong partnerships with relevant organizations and sister institutions while fostering a peaceful working relationship between management, academic staff, and non-teaching employees. According to him, collaboration and unity remain essential for the long-term success of any educational institution.
He also assured the Polytechnic of the Diocese’s goodwill and pledged support in promoting the institution’s academic programmes through appropriate communication channels.
The visit ended with productive discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka and Federal Polytechnic Ohodo, with both parties expressing optimism about future collaborations aimed at advancing education, skills development, and human capital growth.
Among those present at the meeting were Rev. Fr. Dr. Cajetan Iyidiobi, Chancellor and Secretary of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, alongside members of the management team of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo.
