Federal Polytechnic Ede’s 2024/2025 Dress Code Sparks Controversy: No Dreadlocks, Mini-Skirts, or Eye Lashes Allowed

The Department of Accountancy at Federal Polytechnic, Ede, has released a strict dress code for students, sparking mixed reactions among the student body.
According to the memo signed by the Head of Department, L. A. Oyebamiji, students must adhere to specific dress rules each day, including designated colors and outfits. While students are required to wear formal attire on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays are reserved for jerseys and jeans, while Fridays are dedicated to traditional attire.
However, what has caught the most attention are the additional restrictions. The memo explicitly bans dreadlocks, mini-skirts, see-through dresses, nose rings, leg chains, and even artificial eyelashes. The institution also prohibits “satanic haircuts,” though the term remains undefined, leaving room for debate on what styles fall under this category.
Students have expressed mixed reactions, with some seeing the policy as a way to maintain discipline, while others argue it infringes on personal expression. The enforcement of these rules will be carried out by lecturers and class representatives, according to the memo.
As the 2024/2025 academic session begins, all eyes will be on how strictly these rules are enforced and how students react to the policy.
