Convocation Countdown: Acting Rector Flaunts Achievements at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic

The Acting Rector of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE), Dr. Olugbade Adewuyi Akinteye, on Wednesday, addressed newsmen at the Rector’s Conference Room as part of the build-up to the Institution’s 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony.
The well-attended briefing had in attendance Management Team, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Directorates, Heads of Departments, senior members of staff, members of the press, and other distinguished dignitaries, who joined the Rector in sharing the Institution’s progress and future aspirations.
Speaking with deep gratitude, Dr. Akinteye said the convocation marks a historic moment for the 6,650 graduating students across the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 academic sessions. He highlighted the institution’s steady growth under the Omituntun 2.0 agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde, which has seen an expansion of programmes, infrastructural improvements, and a rise in student enrolment.
The Rector proudly recalled that in 2024, AOPE was ranked the third-best polytechnic in Nigeria by JAMB during the National Tertiary Admission Performance Merit Award. He further noted that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had accredited both existing and newly introduced courses, such as Estate Management and Valuation, Marketing, Accountancy, Public Administration, and Fashion Design & Clothing Technology at the Higher National Diploma level.
Dr. Akinteye also stressed the Institution’s determination to embrace innovation, citing AOPE’s partnership with ICT firm DVSECS Resource Enhancer, which allows students to graduate with industry-recognized CISCO certifications. He added that deliberate steps are being taken to integrate Artificial Intelligence-related local content into AOPE’s curriculum—an effort reflected in this year’s convocation lecture theme, “Polytechnic Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Charting a New Course for Inclusion.”
Highlighting the Institution’s achievements beyond academics, he noted that students of the Institution have maintained a peaceful learning environment without protests in the last four years and have excelled in debates, including the prestigious Dotun Sanusi Debate for tertiary institutions in Oyo State.
The Rector then outlined the programme of activities for the convocation, which began with the press briefing and continues with a Juma’at Service on Friday, August 22, followed by an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, August 24. Exhibitions will hold from Wednesday, August 27 to Thursday, August 28 at the Arts and Industrial Design Department.
On Thursday, August 28, Mrs. Modupe Olubanjo, a seasoned journalist and editor, will deliver the convocation lecture at Prof. Abiodun Ojo Hall, while a cocktail party for invited guests follows later in the evening. The celebrations will climax on Friday, August 29, with the grand convocation ceremony at the School’s Sports Field, with His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, Executive Governor of Oyo State and Visitor to the Institution, as the Special Guest of Honour.
One of the highlights of the convocation, according to the Acting Rector, will be the conferment of honours on distinguished personalities who have made remarkable contributions to national development. The awardees include Hon. Sunday Adepoju (Omoyin), Honourable Governing Board Member of TETFund; Prince Adeyinka Afonja, CEO, Ace Supermarket; and Chief Adesoji Aderemi Adeniji, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oat Construction Nig. Ltd.
