FG Launches Tricycle and Motorcycle Loan Scheme to Drive Women’s Financial Independence

The Federal Government has officially launched the 10,000 Women in Mobility programme, a national initiative aimed at empowering women economically through access to tricycles, motorcycles, and other vehicles. The programme is managed by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation and targets women across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The initiative is designed to provide women with the tools and support needed to participate in transportation, logistics, delivery services, and other mobility-related businesses, enhancing both financial independence and broader economic participation.

During the launch and handover of mobility assets, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, emphasized the significance of creating sustainable economic opportunities for women. She noted that the Abuja pilot phase had already provided vehicles to 1,000 women, with the nationwide rollout expected to benefit 10,000 women.

“The programme is about economic empowerment. It’s about effort, dedication, and turning opportunity into sustainable income,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said. “President Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy depends on activating economic spaces and ensuring women, who make up over 50 per cent of Nigeria’s population, are fully included.”

The programme also focuses on building women’s creditworthiness, enabling them to access future financing and loans more easily. According to Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the initiative aims to create value not only for the beneficiaries and their families but also for the Nigerian economy at large.

Uzoma Nwagba, Managing Director of CREDICORP, highlighted that the initiative is a practical step toward financial inclusion and expanding Nigeria’s consumer credit ecosystem. CREDICORP is collaborating with stakeholders to integrate financing, asset supply, business training, and ongoing support, ensuring that women can successfully run mobility enterprises.

“The agency will continue to work with relevant partners to guarantee transparency, sustainability, and the long-term success of the programme nationwide,” Nwagba added.

Several stakeholders, including the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Oluwemimo Osanipin, praised the programme as a timely intervention to strengthen women’s participation in the transport and mobility sectors. Princess Edna Azura, National President of the National Council for Women Society, also commended the initiative for its potential to create lasting economic impact.

The first 300 locally assembled tricycles have already been distributed, marking the beginning of a larger effort to empower 10,000 women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the programme aims to boost incomes, deepen financial inclusion, and strengthen Nigeria’s mobility sector, providing women with real opportunities for entrepreneurship and economic growth.
