AKWAPOLY INAUGURATES 8TH REPUBLIC PARLIAMENT
— as Emmanuel Obot emerges Speaker
The Legislative arm of the Students Union Government, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua was on Monday 28th March successful inaugurated with a charge to the newly elected officers to uphold the tenets of the constitution.
Speaking at the inauguration held at Conference Hall of the institution, the Rector, Barr. Moses Umobong represented by the Deputy Rector, Engr. Okon Effiong expressed happiness over the successful election and subsequent inauguration of the Parliamentarians. He charged the newly elected officers as well as other Parliamentarians to see their respective offices as a call to service and strive to maintain peace on campus at all times.
In his welcome remarks, the Dean, Students Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umoh congratulated the newly elected officers and urged them to work towards the fast development of the union and the school at large. He urged them to always seek out for peaceful deliberations at all times.
The Students Union Government President, Comrade Offiong Kofi Asuquo also appreciated the role played by the Electoral Board and the school management towards a successful and peaceful Electoral process.
Prior to the inauguration, there was an election into the office of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The office of the Speaker had Comrade Obot, Emmanuel Okon (33), Comrade Alphonsus, Gerald Patrick (11) and Comrade Ephraim, Favour Dennis (12) as aspirants while the Office of the Deputy Speaker had Comrade Aloysius, Idong Hanson as the only candidate. At the end of the tightly contested election, Comrade Emmanuel Obot and Comrade Idong Aloysius emerged victorious as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Obot in his acceptance speech thanked the electoral body for the peaceful conduct of the elections and promised to live up to the mandate bestowed upon him.
