The Rector, Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Kabir Bello Dungurawa stated that the Polytechnic education today has become the breeding grounds for innovation, development of new technologies, creation of business start-ups, and other initiatives that lead to the creation of personal employment opportunities and personal wealth. He disclosed this during the combined matriculation ceremony of 13, 737 students for 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022 academic sessions, which was held on Tuesday, 29th March, 2022 at the Convocation arena, School of General Studies, Kano.
The Rector further stressed that, at KSP, all hands are on deck to create an enabling environment that will allow students to explore their potentialities beyond simply learning and acquiring paper qualifications, but rather equipping them with the ability to think critically, and use the acquired knowledge to solve real-life problems through entrepreneurial skills.
Dr. Dungurawa appealed to the students to make a conscious effort to be part of the process of building a community of people who love each other, support each other, work together and, above all, protect each other against patterns of behavior and social practices that are not consistent with the norms and values of the Institution. While congratulating them for being admitted into the Institution, he called on both the new and returning students to focus more on their studies with a view to achieving academic excellence.
A breakdown indicates that for 2019 JAMB a total of 5,792 students were admitted into the National Diploma programs while 1,389 were admitted into Higher National Diplomas, and for 2020 and 2021 JAMB (merged academic sessions) a total of 2,309 and 2,267 students were admitted into various National Diploma programs respectively, while 1,665 for 2020 and 315 for 2021 students were admitted into the Higher National Diplomas.
Highlights of the event include administering the matriculation oath by the Registrar, Mukhtar Ibrahim Bello ably represented by the Deputy Registrar Establishment, Mal. Ma’aruf Jogana, a goodwill message by the representative of the Hon. Commissioner Ministry for Higher Education, DR. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure who was ably represented by the Director Admin and General Services, Alh. Habibu Yusuf Kura, a brief talks on rules and regulations of the Institution by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Muhammad Umar Kibiya, a brief talks on drugs abuse by a Representative of the NDLEA, remarks by the Executive Secretary, KSSSMB, Dr. Bello Shehu among others.
The occasion was graced by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Bayero University, Kano, Dr. Ali Idris, the Head, Department of Education, Bayero University, Kano, Dr. Muhammad Adamu Kwankwaso, KSP Principal Officers; Directors, Unit Schools Directors, Deputy Directors, HODs, CEOs, DECs, Level Coordinators, Union Executives, DPOs Gwale and Sharada Divisions, staff, parents/guardians, students as well as the members of the press.
