YABATECH Celebrates World Youth Skills Day

Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) recently held a seminar in celebration of World Youth Skills Day. The event was put together by the Yabatech UNESCO UNEVOC Center in conjunction with other partners like Learntor, Faith Concept, Addmie and NBTE.
The seminar is aimed at providing students with valuable insight into entrepreneurship that will enable them develop new skills.
Several entrepreneurs were invited to speak and share their experiences at the event with the students, among those invited are: Chidi Njoku; CEO Konstance Pictures, Omolola Solanke; Actor and Producer, and Mercy George Ighafe, a digital marketing expert.
One of the key takeaways from the seminar was the importance of not relying solely on a salary. The entrepreneurs encouraged students to learn new skills and to consider starting their businesses.
During the seminar, the speakers gave specific examples of skills that students should consider learning. These skills included Coding, Graphic Design, Photography, Cyber Security and Social Media/Digital Marketing. The speakers emphasized that these skills are in high demand and can lead to lucrative career opportunities.
Overall, the seminar, which included Panel sessions was a huge success, and the students left feeling inspired and motivated.
The event was a great example of how YABATECH is committed to providing its students with the tools and resources they need to succeed in today’s rapidly changing job market.

In 2014, the United Nation General Assembly declared July 15th as World Youth Skills Day to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
The theme for this year celebration is skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future. Dr Franca Agama, Coordinator of Yabat UNEVOC Centre posited that the theme reflects the essential role teachers, trainers, and other educators play in the provision of skills for youth to transit into labour market and also enable the youths to engage actively in their immediate communities and societies.
