UAT’S VC Visit Host Monarch… HRM King Dr Koroye

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Africa Toru-orua Professor Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah in a bid to partner with the host communities of the university paid a courtesy visit to the king of the host clan of the university, The Pere of Tarakiri Clan, King Dr. Seiyefa Koroye on Friday 28th June 2024 at his palace in Toru-orua. 

The Vice-Chancellor in his speech noted that the visit was to introduce himself to the Monarch and seek the blessings of the throne. The UAT VC stated that, since he assumed office as the substantive Vice-Chancellor, ‘the University has not had any issues with any of the host communities in his domain’ adding that ‘it is a testimony to the quality of leadership that he had provided to the kingdom’. He further thanked the King and his Council of Chiefs for the warm reception and appreciated the magnanimity that the host communities have accorded the University of Africa Toru-orua. 

The Pere of Tarakiri Clan, HRM King  Dr. Seiyefa Koroye in his response expressed joy at the visit, noting that the presence of the university has brought people from all over the nation to Toru-orua, saying that these are the kinds of development desired by the people. He further stated that the University of Africa has had his blessings right from its inception and he prayed that the pioneering efforts of staff will be blessed with manifold achievements. 

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Tarakiri Council of Chiefs, High Chief Perekeme Betula appreciated the management for such a timely visit, adding that taking a look at the persons at the helm of affairs, the University is in good hands. He also urged the management to maintain the education standard and do more where possible. Responding further, High Chief Dr. Stella Ugolo also urged the management to look into introducing more programmes to further boost the university.

Giving the vote of thanks at the visit, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barclays Ayakoroma appreciated the King and the Council of Chiefs for the warm reception received. He further informed that the University is currently making plans to introduce the Faculty of Law, Environmental Sciences, and the College of Health Sciences, in addition to plans already in place to kick-start the School of Post Graduate Studies. He further pleaded that the King support measures already in place with his contacts, to ensure these programmes are floated.

In a similar vein, the Vice-Chancellor and other Principal Officers paid another courtesy visit to HRH king Agadabiri John Akpe of Ebedebiri community on Saturday 29th June 2024.

The Vice-chancellor’s team who were warmly received by the King and his Council of Chiefs were elated at the visit because this is the first VC that has visited them in person since the inception of UAT.

The Vice-Chancellor in his speech appreciated the Ebedebiri Community for being a peaceful host of the UAT Farms Ltd and her students’ resident in the community. He also added that MOUs will be drafted to further strengthen the relationship of UAT and the Ebedebiri community.

Speaking further, Prof. Ayakoroma also noted that the University of Africa Toru-orua is established to bring education closer to the people and as such, they should ensure that members of the Ebedebiri community seize the opportunity to ensure that their children get quality university education at affordable cost.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma; The Registrar, Dr. Akpoebi Adesi; The Acting Bursar, Dr. Umbe Eddy; the Head of the UAT Library, Dr. Catherine Ogbara; the Acting Public Relations Officer. Mrs. Faith Aforka; The Community Liaison Officer, Dr. Terry Odogu, and other members of staff of the UAT.
