Solid Minerals Commissioner Visits KWASU, Urges Collaboration on Sector’s Development

A team from the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, led by the Commissioner, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, have paid Kwara State University, Malete, a visit as part of efforts to forge a synergy for the growth of the solid minerals sector in the state.
The team which paid the visit on Thursday, May 23, 2024, visited the University’s Department of Geology and Mineral Science where the Commissioner stressed the need to bring professionals together to achieve the goal of developing the untapped mineral resources in the state.
Dr. Alabi called for greater synergy from the institution with the state government especially through research and fieldwork which will promote the vision of the Kwara State Government in driving the solid minerals sector.
In his address of welcome, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh who lauded the Commissioner for taking the bold step of forging collaborations for the attainment of a vibrant solid minerals sector, described the Commissioner’s visit as setting the pace and encouraging a symbiotic research/government partnership for the overall betterment of the state.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor who was represented by the University Librarian, Professor AbdulSalam Abiodun Salman, added that the Ministry in collaboration with the institution would be able develop a roadmap for the for the development of the sector in the state stressing that the solid minerals sector was a viable area for the diversification of the economy.
Professor Jimoh who restated the University’s readiness to partner with the State Government in all sectors added that the institution was in an excellent position to be partnered with given the quality of staff and research that were recognised not just nationally, but internationally.
The Head of the Department of Geology and Minerals Science, Dr. Ajadi Jimoh, also emphasised that the Department was ready to support and collaborate with the State Government, calling for a think-tank team to set the a realisable agenda for the solid mineral sector.Solid Minerals Commissioner Visits KWASU, Urges Collaboration on Sector’s Development
