POLY’BADAN: STUDENTS’UNION PRESIDENT APPEALS TO GOVERNOR MAKINDE.

In a renewed effort to resolve the ongoing indefinite strike declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions, The Students’ Union President of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Comrade Oladipupo Olamide Daniel, has formally appealed to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, in an official letter dated March 10, 2025, to intervene swiftly.
In a letter addressed to the Governor, the Students’ Union expressed deep concern over the prolonged disruption to academic activities. They acknowledged the right of lecturers and staff to advocate for improved welfare but emphasized the growing anxiety among students who face extended academic calendars, delayed graduations, and increased financial strain. According to the Union, this strike action jeopardizes the educational future of thousands of students, many of whom have already endured disruptions from previous industrial actions.
The Students’ Union President urged Governor Makinde to convene an urgent dialogue involving the leadership of JAC, the Management of affected institutions, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate a prompt resolution. While affirming the importance of staff welfare, he highlighted the necessity of balancing these demands with the pressing need for uninterrupted academic progress.
The Polytechnic, Ibadan community is hopeful that the Governor’s intervention will yield a peaceful and lasting agreement. Students are advised to remain calm, stay informed through official channels, and await further directives from the Students’ Union and institution authorities.
