Opay Digital Services has announced a groundbreaking scholarship program to support Nigerian polytechnic students, offering ₦300,000 per beneficiary per academic session.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), aims to ease financial burdens and promote academic excellence. The rollout began today at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and will expand nationwide over the next decade.
Scholarship Details and Eligibility
The program targets undergraduate students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Each year, 20 students from each institution will receive financial aid. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in a recognized polytechnic and have an active Opay account.
Beyond tuition assistance, the scholarship will fund internships, research projects, and professional development opportunities, positioning beneficiaries for future career success.
NAPS, Polytechnic Leaders Applaud Opay
Speaking at the launch, NAPS President Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide praised Opay for investing in student welfare and urged the Federal Government to support similar initiatives. He also called on other fintech companies to follow Opay’s lead in promoting education.
The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic welcomed the program, encouraging Opay to explore further investments such as ICT centers, libraries, and entrepreneurship projects for students.
Opay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mr. Itoro, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering Nigerian students, emphasizing that education remains a key pillar of their CSR initiatives.
With this scholarship, Opay is set to make a lasting impact on Nigerian polytechnic students, helping them overcome financial challenges and build successful careers.
