Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Seeks Strategic Partnership With Aba Made Film Project

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, has expressed the institution’s readiness to establish a strategic partnership with the Aba Made Film Project, a creative initiative supported by the Abia State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.
The proposed collaboration is aimed at advancing creative education, talent development, and innovation while positioning students to take advantage of emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s rapidly growing film and entertainment industry.
The Aba Made Film Project is part of the Abia State Government’s broader vision to transform Aba into a thriving centre for creative enterprise, innovation, and cultural development. As part of this agenda, the administration of Governor Alex Otti has proposed the establishment of an Entertainment Village designed to boost tourism, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the creative economy in the South-East region.
Dr. Okoro Kalu made the remarks while speaking as a special guest during an entertainment engagement held at the institution’s ICT Auditorium on June 12, 2026. He highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that it aligns with the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.
According to the Rector, the programme provides a valuable platform for young people to discover, nurture, and maximize their talents while gaining exposure to industry opportunities that can shape their future careers.
“Opportunities of this nature do not come frequently. Do not take them for granted,” he advised participants.
Reflecting on recent developments within the institution, Dr. Okoro Kalu revealed that the restructuring of the Mass Communication Department led to the introduction of Film and Multimedia Production programmes. He noted that the new academic offerings closely align with the objectives of the Aba Made Film Project and demonstrate the institution’s commitment to preparing students for careers in the creative sector.
He further disclosed that the Polytechnic has recruited qualified lecturers and industry professionals to strengthen training in film production, multimedia, and other creative disciplines. In addition, the institution has invested in structures and facilities that support practical learning and hands-on experience.
The Rector credited the support of the Abia State Government for facilitating the acquisition of modern equipment and resources needed to enhance practical instruction and equip students with industry-relevant skills.
Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to collaboration, Dr. Okoro Kalu assured the organisers of the Polytechnic’s willingness to partner with stakeholders in the creative industry to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and talent development.
He also encouraged participants to remain focused on their dreams, stressing that every major achievement begins with a vision before it becomes a reality.
According to him, success starts with the ability to imagine and believe in a desired future before taking the necessary steps to achieve it.
“The journey of a thousand miles does not just begin with a step; it begins with the thought of taking that step,” he stated.
The Rector commended the Abia State Government for creating opportunities that bring established Nollywood actors and actresses closer to aspiring creatives. He noted that such initiatives help bridge the gap between emerging talents and industry professionals while providing access to mentorship, guidance, and practical knowledge.
Congratulating participants, Dr. Okoro Kalu described the programme as a rare privilege and an important learning opportunity. He encouraged them to make the most of the experience by engaging with accomplished figures in the Nigerian film industry and drawing inspiration from their success stories.
He added that the knowledge, exposure, and professional connections gained through such engagements could play a significant role in shaping successful careers within Nigeria’s expanding creative economy.
