North-West Development Commission Announces 2025/2026 Foreign Scholarships for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students

The North-West Development Commission (NWDC) has opened applications for its 2025/2026 foreign scholarship programme. This opportunity is available to qualified candidates from the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria, covering undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD studies abroad.

According to the official statement from the Commission, the scholarship is part of ongoing efforts to boost education and develop skilled professionals who can contribute to regional growth. The programme focuses on building human capital through access to world-class learning opportunities.

Available Fields of Study

Applicants can apply to study in any of the following areas:

  • Engineering
  • Medical Sciences
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Education

Who is Eligible to Apply?

To qualify, candidates must:

  • Be indigenes of any of the following states: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, or Zamfara.
  • For undergraduate scholarships: Have at least five O’Level credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • For Master’s scholarships: Hold a minimum of Second Class Upper in their undergraduate degree.
  • For PhD scholarships: Hold a Master’s degree with at least a 4.00 CGPA.
  • Be 35 years old or younger for undergraduate and Master’s applicants, and not older than 40 for PhD applicants.

Interested candidates should apply through the NWDC scholarship portal at: nwdc.gov.ng/scholarships

Applicants must upload the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Primary School Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree Certificate (if applicable)
  • NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Letter
  • Local Government and State Indigene Certificates
  • International Passport
  • Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
  • WAEC/NECO Certificate
  • Master’s Degree Certificate (for PhD applicants)
  • Official Academic Transcripts
  • Letter of Motivation

In addition to the NWDC scheme, the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has also begun accepting applications for its 2025/2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme. The PTDF programme supports MSc and PhD studies in the UK, Germany, France, Malaysia, and the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna.

The PTDF scholarship covers tuition, return flights, health insurance, living expenses, and bench fees, and is designed to train professionals for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Both the NWDC and PTDF initiatives highlight the government’s investment in education and skills development for national progress.
