NIP Holds Quarterly Meeting In FEDPOFFA, Commends Management For Financial Support

In its quest to simplify physics, the Nigerian Institute of Physics, Kwara State Chapter has held its quarterly meeting in the Federal Polytechnic Offa.
The meeting held on Wednesday 19 July 2023 in the Institute for Continuing Education Boardroom was premised on sensitizing people on the advantage of physics as the bedrock of development in any nation.
Delivering his goodwill message, the National President, NIP, Ass. Prof. J. O. Coker, FNIP, represented by the Chairman NIP, Kwara State Chapter, Prof. Falaiye Oluwasesan appreciated the Polytechnic Management for hosting the NIP Executives and for supporting the Department of Applied Physics.
He sincerely acknowledged the Management for unbundling Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) and carving out Department of Applied Physics; he also lauded Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru’s led administration for the financial assistance offered to the department to host a befitting quarterly meeting of the NIP, Kwara State Chapter. He added that the Rector has demonstrated a fatherly role for accepting and hosting the State Chapter in the Polytechnic.
While stating the reasons for the meeting, the President said the meeting is focused on promoting and protecting Physics within the State by organizing workshops, seminars, colloquiums, school debates, quiz competition and other programmes among Secondary Schools.
According to him “Generally, people believe that Physics is a difficult process and run away from it and this forms the bases why the Institute deemed it fit to consider sensitization programmes to simplify it and make it a most preferred choice of course for students to study.
Speaking on collaborations with the Polytechnic, he said the meeting is also to see the areas in which the Institute can collaborate with the Federal Polytechnic Offa to achieve its set mission and vision.
“We sincerely look forward to such collaboration. We want to be part of the dream of this great Institution,” He said.
Earlier, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin FNSE represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Rasaq Femi Quadri appreciated NIP executives for holding the meeting in the Polytechnic. He stated that since the unbundling of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) which gave birth to Applied Physics Department, the Management has been magnanimous in giving maximum support to the department to enhance its smooth running.
While wishing them a fruitful deliberation, he charged the NIP to include the Federal Polytechnic Offa in its mailing list of publications most especially journals for the use of the Polytechnic Library.
Also speaking, the Deputy Rector Academics, Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Bola Aliyu represented by the Director, Affiliate Degree Programmes & Industrial Collaborations, Engr. Dr. A. O. Ajao commended NIP Kwara State Chapter Chairman, Prof. O. A. Falaiye’s leadership and the commitment of his Vice Chairman, Dr. Oyeleke Olaosebikan who is also the Head of Department of Applied Physics of the Federal Polytechnic Offa for their dedication to the development of NIP and their institutions.
The Deputy Rector noted that the NIP meeting which is aimed at bridging the gap between technical knowledge and other necessary skills required to compete effectively with scientists in the place of leadership is important for the production of skilled and professional manpower for economic development and sustenance.
While the Head of the Department of Applied Physics who doubles as NIP Kwara State Branch Vice Chairman, Dr. Oyeleke appreciated the Polytechnic Management for the approval to host the meeting and for supporting the department. He equally appreciated other NIP Executives for their unanimous decision to host the meeting in the Federal Polytechnic Offa.

Other NIP Executives present were: Dr. P. T. Babatunde, General Secretary and, Dr. J. S. Abayomi, Financial Secretary.
Members of the Polytechnic at the meeting were: Mr. Friday Dogbo, Rep. Bursar; Dr. Sunday Asakpa, Rep. Dean, School of Applied Science and Technology; Dr. (Mrs.) C. O. Olafimihan, Director, ICE; SSA to the Rector, Mrs. Egbele J. F.; Prince Nurudeen Olanipekun, HoD, Biological Science; Chief Tajudeen O. Shittu; Dr. Odion Peter Egbele; Dr. George Pele Ifeoluwa among others.
