NBTE Denounces Fake NAPS Taskforce Circular, Warns Public to Disregard Misleading Claims

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has issued a strong warning to polytechnic stakeholders and the general public over a fake circular allegedly released by the leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS). The controversial publication claimed that a joint “NBTE–NAPS Accreditation and Verification Taskforce Committee” had been formed to oversee accreditation activities in Nigerian polytechnics.
In a statement signed by its management, NBTE clarified that it has not approved, endorsed, or authorized the creation of any joint taskforce with NAPS or any student body for accreditation or verification purposes. The board emphasized that accreditation, verification, and quality assurance of Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and allied institutions remain its exclusive statutory responsibility and cannot be delegated, shared, or transferred to external associations, student unions, or private bodies.
Describing the NAPS circular as misleading and unauthorized, NBTE urged institutions, stakeholders, and the public to disregard the publication entirely. The board further warned that any individual or group parading themselves as members of such a committee are acting without NBTE’s knowledge, consent, or approval, and should not be engaged in any capacity.
Reaffirming its commitment to regulating technical and vocational education in Nigeria, NBTE assured that it will continue to discharge its mandate with integrity, professionalism, and strict adherence to due process.
