Nasarawa Lawmaker Awards ₦100m Scholarships to 1,000 Students

In a bold move to support education and youth development, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, the federal lawmaker representing Awe, Doma, and Keana Constituency, has awarded scholarships worth ₦100 million to 1,000 indigent students across Nasarawa State.
The presentation ceremony took place on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, under the platform of the Nalaraba Foundation, an initiative established by the legislator to promote academic excellence and reduce financial barriers for students.
Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 to cover tuition fees for at least one academic session. Nalaraba explained that the scholarship programme was designed to ease the burden of rising school costs and encourage access to higher education.

This informed our decision to provide direct financial support to students who need it the most,” he said.
According to the lawmaker, community leaders and stakeholders across Nasarawa’s 13 local government areas were consulted to ensure fair selection of deserving candidates.
Chairman of the 2025 Scholarship Grants Committee, Prof. Amirikpa Oyigbenu, confirmed that all beneficiaries had received their payments. He commended Nalaraba for his commitment to education and advised students to use the funds judiciously in order to sustain future empowerment projects.
“Every ward in the state produced at least one to three beneficiaries. Careful attention was given to identifying children whose parents cannot afford school fees,” Oyigbenu stated.
Traditional leader Aren Eggon Ahmed Ubangari also praised the initiative, urging students to make the most of the opportunity and honor the trust placed in them.
Some of the recipients, including Abimiku David and Safiyanu Bushrat, expressed gratitude for the scholarship, describing it as a life-changing support that will enable them to pursue their academic goals without financial stress.
This scholarship scheme marks one of the largest single educational interventions by a federal lawmaker in Nasarawa State and is expected to inspire similar programmes aimed at empowering young Nigerians through education.
