The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede is a federal government-owned higher institution located in Nekede, Owerri West local government area in Imo State, South-Eastern Nigeria. It was established on a temporary site at the premise of Government Technical College by the Imo State government in 1978 as College of Technology, Owerri before it was moved to its present location in Nekede. On 7 April 1993, the polytechnic was changed to a federal government institution and was renamed “The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.”

The polytechnic runs three(3) programmes: Morning, Evening and Weekend programmes at both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) level. The Morning programme is also known as a full-time programme. Lectures start at 8:00am for the full-time programme while the weekend programme is meant for students who would like to combine work with study as lectures are held on weekends. The Evening programme also known as daily part time programme is similar to the morning programme and the only difference is school fees and class allocation. 

One can gain admission to The Federal polytechnic Nekede Evening programme with or without jamb provided you have already obtained a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects including English language and mathematics.

Federal Polytechnic Nekede is one of the best polytechnics in Nigeria with the highest number of students. The polytechnic is the first institution to be ranked as best by the National board for Technical Education (NBTE).
