Former NAPS Senate President Urges IGP to Transfer Osun Police Commissioner Over Security Concerns

OSOGBO – The Immediate Past Senate President of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Comrade Adeniji Boluwaji Temitope (Obey), has called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to transfer the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, citing concerns over the state’s security situation and public confidence in the police.

In an open letter dated June 25, 2026, and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja, Adeniji appealed for the appointment of what he described as a “competent, impartial, and professional” Commissioner of Police to lead the Osun State Command.

According to him, recent incidents of political tension, violent attacks, killings, and other security challenges in Osun State have heightened fears among residents and raised questions about the effectiveness of policing in the state.

He stated that the recurring reports of political violence, intimidation, attacks, and the loss of innocent lives have generated concerns over the ability of the current police leadership to maintain law and order effectively.

The former NAPS Senate President noted that many residents are worried about whether adequate measures are being taken to prevent violence, arrest perpetrators, and ensure justice for victims. He added that any perception of bias or selective enforcement of the law could undermine public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

Adeniji emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, maintain public order, and enforce the law impartially, stressing that the people of Osun State deserve police leadership that commands public confidence.

In his appeal, he urged the Inspector-General of Police to transfer the current Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, and appoint a seasoned, experienced, and impartial officer capable of restoring public trust in policing across the state.

He also called for a thorough and impartial investigation into all reported cases of political violence, killings, and public disturbances in Osun State, while urging the police authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable, irrespective of political affiliation or social status, is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The former student leader further appealed for improved intelligence gathering and proactive policing strategies aimed at preventing political violence and other criminal activities in the state.

He maintained that residents of Osun State deserve a Police Command that protects all citizens equally, acts professionally, and responds decisively to criminal activities without political considerations.

Adeniji expressed confidence in the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police and appealed for urgent action in the interest of justice, peace, public safety, and the protection of democratic values in Osun State.
