FedPoly Bali Engineering Students Visit NTA, TSBS & TTV in Jalingo to Gain Hands-On Media Tech Skills

Students of the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department of Federal Polytechnic Bali have embarked on a practical learning tour to major technical and broadcast facilities in Jalingo, Taraba State — an initiative designed to connect classroom theories with real-world industry experience.
The one-day technical excursion, approved by the institution’s management under the leadership of Rector Dr. Mohammed Usman, took the students to the Jalingo Work Centre 132/33KV (JWC), Taraba State Broadcasting Station (TSBS), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Taraba Television (TTV).
During their stop at the JWC, Engr. Dauda Iliya educated the students on the function and importance of grounding transformers in maintaining network stability and providing auxiliary voltage.
At TSBS, Engr. Roland Rimamskep gave the students a practical session on how audio mixers operate, combining and amplifying signals. He also recorded students’ voices with professional microphones, giving them a feel of live studio work.
At NTA Jalingo, Engrs. Boshi Rinyiputee Bakari and Mohammed Abdullahi guided the group through the TV station’s control room, detailing how decoders, transmitters, and routers all work together to keep broadcasts on air.
The tour wrapped up at TTV, where Engr. Tanko Riki, Deputy Director of Engineering, walked the students through the programming, transmitter, and editing units — explaining how each unit contributes to seamless media production.
Head of Department, Engr. Buhari M. Buhari, praised the Polytechnic’s management for supporting the excursion. He said the field trip gave students much-needed exposure to equipment and environments that match their course content, equipping them with industrial knowledge and boosting their confidence to face challenges after graduation.
He added that practical visits like this inspire students to become self-reliant and better prepared for Nigeria’s evolving technology landscape.
