Apply Now: NELFUND Encourages Parents to Guide Students on Federal Loan Opportunities for Tertiary Education

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has urged Nigerian parents to motivate their children to take advantage of the Federal Government’s student loan program designed to make tertiary education more accessible.
According to a statement issued by Omojola Seun-Ojerinde on behalf of the Fund, Sawyerr made this appeal during a sensitization program in Ekiti State. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to easing the financial burden of tertiary education on parents across the country.
Sawyerr described the student loan initiative as a life-changing opportunity for young Nigerians aspiring to pursue higher education. Speaking at the Palace of the Oore of Otun Ekiti and Paramount Ruler of Moba land, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, the NELFUND boss encouraged parents to support their children in public tertiary institutions to apply for the loan and benefit from the government’s educational support policy.
“Nigerians have a deep desire for knowledge. We are naturally curious and eager to learn. This student loan policy is a gateway for millions of young people to achieve their academic dreams without financial restrictions,” he said.
Sawyerr also revealed that the response to the program has been overwhelming, noting that within just 24 hours, over 12,000 applications were received through the student loan portal. He described this as proof that the initiative is already making a remarkable impact in expanding access to tertiary education.
The Federal Government’s student loan scheme, managed by NELFUND, aims to ensure that every qualified Nigerian student can obtain higher education without worrying about tuition costs. The initiative covers students in public tertiary institutions and is part of the administration’s broader effort to promote youth empowerment through education.
Parents and guardians are therefore encouraged to guide their children on how to properly apply for the loan through the NELFUND portal and ensure their academic records are up to date. The Fund continues to conduct sensitization programs nationwide to educate Nigerians about the benefits and processes of the student loan scheme.
