The Provost, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti, Dr(Mrs) Olajumoke Adebayo has advised new intakes of the institution against indulging in gangsterism, cultism and examination malpractice, amongst other social vices.

Dr Adebayo gave the charge on Friday 1st March 2024, while addressing matriculating students recently admitted into the College’s Six Schools, namely; School of Environmental Studies, School of Community and Public Health, School of Medical Diagnostics & Imaging Sciences, School of Health Information Management and Biostatistics, School of therapeutic & Intervention Science as well as the School of Basic Medical Sciences and General Studies.

The Provost who hinted that the College has a functional Entrepreneurship Center where Students can acquire additional skills such as; paint making, tailoring, poultry, interior decoration, that would make them become job providers and employers of labour after graduation,  advised matriculants against indulging in self medication, maintaining that the institution has a functional health centre where medical needs of students are readily attended to.

The Provost further charged female students of the College to do away with elements of distraction that are capable of putting them in the family way, noting that any student found pregnant in the course of her programme would be shown the way out of the institution.

Dr. Adebayo advised students against bottling up their challenges, stressing the need to open up, either to the Dean, Students’ Affairs or any of the College’s team of Counsellors whenever they encounter issues that are beyond their control.

In his brief remarks, the Ekiti State JAMB Coordinator, Alhaji Hassan Lawal urged matriculants to stay focused and abide by the rules and regulations guiding their studentship.

He further stressed the need for the students to be diligent in their studies in order to make themselves and their parents proud.

On her part, the College Registrar, Mrs. Caroline Ogunsakin maintained that, a matriculation ceremony, although authenticates one’s studentship, does not automatically result to the expected graduation for some students, whom she hinted might be compelled to end their programmes abruptly due to various reasons.

Mrs. Ogunsakin therefore enjoined the matriculants to diligently pursue their major goal in the College, in order to be found worthy of the convocation, which she described as a higher academic ceremony usually held to honour successful graduants of any academic institution.
