WICE celebrates 25th anniversary in FCET Umunze, Honours National President


The Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) FCE(T), Umunze on Wednesday, 25th January, 2023 celebrated her 25th Silver Jubilee and colorful reception for the National President of the association, Dr Tessy Okoli who doubles as the Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze.

The Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Nkiruka Ochuba, said WICE has over the years provided a forum where thousands of women in Colleges of Education have been impacted, inspired and encouraged to achieve their God-given potentials through workshops and other capacity building programmes.

She noted that the grand reception in honour of the National President was held to celebrate outstanding leadership and charisma of Dr Tessy Okoli, who she said has served the association selflessly in different capacities.
Before emerging the National President, Dr Okoli had served as  the National Secretary of WICE, Treasurer WICE South East Zone and Chairperson WICE,
Umunze chapter.

Earlier in her opening remark, the National President of WICE, Dr Tessy Okoli described women as strong pillars of the society, entrusted with special roles in the growth and progress of the human society. She encouraged women not to join forces in causing problems in the society but become solution providers and nation builders. 

The Provost further urged women to put in their time and efforts to the growth of the association. She also encouraged members of the association to become models in their various duty posts through exemplary character and diligence to official duties.

As part of the celebration, the Deputy Provost, Dr C.C Ugwuogo, the Registrar, B.C Nkah, the College Bursar, Comrade E.C Echedo and the College Librarian, Dr A.S Agada were honored by the association for their various contributions to the association and College community at large.

As part of the silver jubilee celebration, WICE recognised and honoured her pioneer members, who have been in the association for 25years. These ‘silver women’ were honoured for their selfless service and sacrifice for the growth of the association in the College. 

Some of the WICE pioneer members that received the silver award were the National President, WICE, Dr Tessy Okoli,  Dr. R.N Egbunonu, Dr. Uzo-Okonkwo Nneka Helen,  Barr Augusta Chinedu Assimonye, Justina Onyenachi Oduh, Mrs. Nonye N. Mba, Dr. Chukwudum E.O, Mrs. Ndubaku N.S. Dr. V.N. Ejezie, and Dr. Blessing Nkiliadi Leghara, and others.

The former National President of the association, Dr Mary Oyere Aibangbe was also conferred with a distinguished award for her laudable contribution to the association.

Dignitaries at the event include: Engr. Emma Emmanuel Nwafor (Ntu Japan) member representing Orumba North and South Constituency Anambra State House of Assembly, Engr Felix Okeke, among others.

The high point of the event was the cutting of the anniversar  and N10 million naira fundraising for a new bus for the association.
