Weekend Business Ideas for Working Class Nigerians

If you work Monday to Friday, your weekends are your only free time. But instead of spending Saturday and Sunday just resting or attending owambes, what if you could use that time to earn extra income? depending on one salary isn’t enough. Thankfully, there are many businesses you can run only on weekends—without affecting your 9–5 or taking too much of your time. These businesses can be done in a few hours and still put money in your pocket every weekend. So if you’ve been looking for business ideas you can do on Saturdays and Sundays, here are some practical ones to consider.

1. Event Catering and Small Chops Delivery

Nigerians love parties—birthdays, weddings, naming ceremonies, and so on. Most of these events happen on weekends. If you can cook or bake, this is a perfect fit. You can prepare small chops, jollof rice, cakes, or even drinks and deliver them to events. You don’t need a shop. Just work from home and promote your services on WhatsApp, Instagram, and with friends.

2. Home Services (Barbing, Hair Styling, Makeup)

Many busy professionals don’t have time during the week to visit salons. That’s where you come in. If you’re good at cutting hair, braiding, fixing nails, or doing makeup, you can offer home services on weekends. Customers will gladly pay extra for the convenience. Start with your circle—friends, colleagues, or neighbors—and grow from there.

3. Photography and Videography

Most events—weddings, birthdays, burials—happen on weekends. If you own a decent phone or camera, or you know how to edit pictures or videos, this is a solid side business. Even if you don’t attend events, you can offer product photography to business owners who need good pictures for Instagram.

4. Weekend Tutoring for Students

Many parents look for private tutors to help their children catch up during the weekend. If you’re good in a subject—maths, English, chemistry, or accounting—you can teach students either physically or online. Charge per hour or per weekend session, and target students preparing for WAEC, NECO, or JAMB.

5. Weekend Sports Coaching or Fitness Training

If you’re into fitness or a particular sport like football, swimming, or aerobics, you can coach people on weekends. Many people are willing to pay for weekend fitness sessions or enroll their kids in sports academies. You can start with a few clients and grow as you get results.

6. Mobile Car Wash

People want their cars cleaned over the weekend. You can offer home service car wash where you go to people’s homes to clean their cars for a fee. All you need is water, soap, buckets, and a vacuum cleaner (optional). If you’re thorough and fast, you’ll keep getting referrals.

7. Pop-up Food Sales (Weekend Food Plug)

You can sell special meals every Saturday and Sunday. For example: Ofada rice, pepper soup, nkwobi, or amala and ewedu. Announce your menu on WhatsApp, take orders ahead, and deliver on time. This is especially hot for workers living alone or too tired to cook.

8. Cake and Pastry Sales for Birthdays

Most birthdays and celebrations happen during weekends. If you can bake cakes or snacks, market yourself as a “weekend cake plug.” You don’t need a shop—just start baking from home and get a delivery partner or ask customers to pick up.

9. Interior Decoration and Event Setup

If you enjoy decorating or arranging things, you can start a weekend event decoration service. Many people need decorators for birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, and even housewarmings. Start small with balloon decor, backdrop rentals, or table setup. As you grow, you can expand into full event decoration.

10. Mobile POS Business (Weekend Only)

You can run a POS (Point of Sale) business only on weekends. Many people do cash transactions during weekends, and banks might not be open. Place your stand at a market, bus stop, or event center. You can even combine it with selling recharge cards or snacks.

11. Errand and Delivery Services

Offer to help people with errands like shopping, picking up laundry, or delivering packages. Many people are too busy or tired to do these themselves. With just a bike or even public transport, you can run errands and charge per job.

12. Weekend Fashion Design and Adjustment

If you’re good at sewing, you can focus only on weekend tailoring—minor adjustments, last-minute outfits, or urgent native wears. You can also help people re-style old clothes or sew trending styles for parties.

13. Buying and Reselling Thrift Items

Visit thrift markets (like Yaba, Katangua, or Aswani) on Saturdays, buy quality clothes or shoes, and resell online. Take neat photos, post on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, and sell at a profit. People love affordable fashion, especially when it’s clean and stylish.

14. Weekend Real Estate Agent

If you know areas with available apartments or land for sale, you can help house-hunters find what they need. Do the inspection and showings on weekends. Once you close a deal, you earn a commission. It’s a slow burner, but one successful deal can bring in good money.

Tips for Succeeding in Weekend Business

  • Plan your time: Don’t overbook. Focus on what you can handle in a day.
  • Deliver quality: One satisfied customer can bring five more.
  • Use social media: Promote your services on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Stay consistent: Even if you make small sales at first, keep showing up.
