WED 2025: Forest College Provost Leads Fugar Community in Environmental Awareness Walk and Tree Planting Drive

As part of the global celebration of World Environment Day (WED) 2025, the Federal College of Forest Resources Management, Fugar, Edo State, took environmental advocacy to the streets in a symbolic Road-Walk led by the Provost, Dr. Areghan Sylvester E.
The event began with a spirited procession through key areas of Fugar town, drawing attention to this year’s theme on combating plastic pollution. The walk later moved to Mother of Good Counsel School, Fugar, where students and community members gathered for a special WED outreach.
Two impactful presentations were delivered during the event:
🔹 “Combating Plastic Pollution Through Sustainable Forestry” by Dr. Adeyi Abiola, Deputy Provost of the College, and
🔹 “From Waste to Worth: Ending Plastic Pollution in Nigeria” by Dr. Goddidit E., Head of Environmental Biology at Edo State University, Iyahmo.
These talks emphasized the urgent need for environmental responsibility, sustainable practices, and collective action against plastic waste in Nigeria.
In a symbolic gesture of hope and renewal, a tree planting ceremony followed the presentations. Participants included His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Ogar, the Okugbe of Fugar Clan; the guest speaker from Edo State University, Iyahmo; and the Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Auchi.
The event was a powerful reminder of the role education and community action play in protecting the environment for future generations.
