WAEC Assures Smooth Conduct of 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE Across Nigeria and Abroad

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) without hitches. The council assured students, parents, and schools that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a seamless and credible examination process.
During a sensitisation campaign held in Lagos on Wednesday, the Head of the WAEC National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, emphasized that every student who registers for the 2026 CB-WASSCE will have the opportunity to write their exams smoothly — both within Nigeria and overseas.
Preparing Students for the Future of Digital Examinations
According to Dr. Dangut, the nationwide awareness campaign aims to familiarize candidates, teachers, and school administrators with the new computer-based system. The sensitisation drive covered key areas across Lagos, including Yaba, Ojo, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Maryland, and Surulere.
He noted that the initiative is part of WAEC’s broader efforts to prepare candidates ahead of the examination and give them a chance to practice the digital format before the official exam date.
“Some people are still doubting whether the CB-WASSCE is a reality. We have already conducted five computer-based exams successfully. Every candidate who registers for the 2026 CB-WASSCE will write their exam—whether in Nigeria, the UK, or anywhere else. This is the future of examinations,” Dr. Dangut stated confidently.
WAEC’s Commitment to Transparency and Technology Integration
Dr. Dangut reaffirmed WAEC’s dedication to conducting credible, transparent, and technology-driven examinations, adding that the computer-based format will drastically reduce examination malpractice and logistical bottlenecks that have plagued traditional exams.
He noted that data from previously conducted pilot exams showed impressive results — with a significant drop in malpractice rates and improved candidate performance.
“The records are clear. All the five CB exams conducted so far recorded low malpractice and better candidate outcomes. This shows that the system is effective, secure, and beneficial to all stakeholders,” he said.
Addressing Concerns Over Removed Subjects on the CASS Portal
The WAEC boss also addressed rumours suggesting that the council had arbitrarily deleted certain subjects from its Continuous Assessment (CASS) Portal. He clarified that the decision to remove some trade-related subjects was taken after thorough consultation with relevant stakeholders and education authorities.
“For instance, auto merchandising was removed because the subject itself is no longer in existence under the national curriculum. Keeping it on the CASS portal would serve no purpose. We are only aligning with approved subjects,” he explained.
Dr. Dangut added that while the names of some subjects have been updated or modified, their academic content remains largely unchanged.
“WAEC remains a responsible and law-abiding body. We are committed to adopting modern technology to enhance education delivery and ensure Nigeria continues to align with global assessment standards,” he concluded.
Towards a Fully Digital Examination Era
The introduction of the CB-WASSCE marks a significant milestone in WAEC’s digital transformation journey. The council believes that computer-based testing will not only eliminate examination irregularities but also promote efficiency, integrity, and fairness in student assessment.
With the successful rollout of earlier pilot exams and extensive sensitisation campaigns across the country, WAEC’s transition into a fully computer-based testing era appears well on track.
