TETFund Hails Tinubu for Rapid Funding Approvals in Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Sector

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commended President Bola Tinubu for his proactive support and rapid approval of funding interventions aimed at advancing tertiary education in Nigeria.
Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, made the remarks during the 2025 management retreat held in Yola, themed “Advancing TETFund Mandate for Efficient Service Delivery in Beneficiary Institutions.” He highlighted that the Tinubu administration has ensured the prompt approval of development funds across all beneficiary institutions.
Echono further disclosed that the 2026 intervention guidelines have already received presidential approval, allowing the agency to commence implementation immediately. “As I speak, even the 2026 intervention guidelines have been approved by Mr. President, so we are ready to hit the ground running,” he said. He added that the retreat was convened to refine strategies for effective project delivery.
Prof. Ibrahim Umar, Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, expressed gratitude to TETFund for its continuous support. He noted that many tertiary institutions would struggle without these interventions and appealed for additional assistance, particularly for internal road networks and campus security improvements.
Similarly, Prof. Mohammed Dagereji, Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Yola, stressed that enhanced infrastructural support, especially in power supply and Internet connectivity, is critical for tertiary institutions to perform optimally.
A major highlight of the retreat was the inauguration of several TETFund-sponsored projects at MAU’s main campus by the Executive Secretary. These included the main building of the College of Medical Sciences, Lecture Theatre I, laboratories, animal houses, a library, a veterinary clinic, and the main building of the Faculty of Law.
The initiatives reflect TETFund’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, strengthening infrastructure, and improving service delivery in beneficiary institutions.
