Sterling Bank Awards ₦2 Billion “Beyond Education” Scholarships to First Beneficiaries

Sterling Bank has officially unveiled the first set of 99 beneficiaries of its ambitious ₦2 billion Beyond Education Scholarship Fund, marking a major private-sector investment in Nigeria’s higher education landscape. The announcement was made during the Sterling Leadership Series (SLS) held at the Alliance Française de Lagos/Mike Adenuga Centre.
A Bold Commitment to Education
Launched earlier this year, the Beyond Education Scholarship Fund is designed to cover full tuition fees for exceptional Nigerian students, reinforcing Sterling Bank’s HEART strategy—Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation.
Speaking at the event, Temitayo Adegoke, Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Bank, described the unveiling as a new chapter for Nigerian education:
“Education remains the most powerful tool for transformation. Sterling is committed to creating pathways that give young Nigerians access to quality learning and real-world opportunities.”
Industry Leaders Rally Behind the Initiative
The ceremony gathered leading voices from education, entrepreneurship, and policy, including Sim Shagaya, founder of uLesson and Miva University; Dr. Ayoteju Ogun, Deputy Director at the National Universities Commission; and David Adebayo, Chief Entrepreneur at Sterling Bank.
Panelists challenged African educators and policymakers to move beyond traditional teaching models and embrace creativity, adaptability, and lifelong learning to drive economic growth.
“The Future Is Built, Not Inherited”
Sterling Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Abubakar Suleiman, reaffirmed the bank’s vision of nurturing talent across Nigeria:
“The Sterling Leadership Series was designed to set a new standard. Our young people already possess the talent and courage. What they need are the right opportunities—and Sterling is creating the tools and platforms to unlock Nigeria’s greatest dividend: its people.”
The announcement of the first 99 scholars was met with resounding applause, celebrated not only as an academic achievement but also as a statement of values—proof that corporate investment can directly shape a nation’s future.
Long-Term Impact
With a ₦2 billion commitment, Sterling Bank is positioning education as a cornerstone for sustainable development. The Beyond Education Scholarship is already sparking national conversations about private-sector funding for tertiary education, the future of Nigerian youth, and the role of banks in driving social impact investments.
About the Sterling Leadership Series
The Sterling Leadership Series is a quarterly interactive forum created to connect thought leaders across industries and inspire innovative ideas that deliver measurable change.
