OGITECH Launches Bakery, Begins Production of Quality Bread for Campus and Community

The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has launched its very own bakery, now fully operational and producing freshly baked bread for students, staff, and the surrounding community.
The bakery, which officially began production this July, is a major step forward in the institution’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship, practical learning, and self-sufficiency. According to sources within the school management, the project is part of OGITECH’s broader plan to equip students with hands-on skills while also generating internally sourced income.
Early reviews from students and staff have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the taste, texture, and freshness of the bread. “It’s soft, rich, and very affordable,” one student said. “And the fact that it’s made right here on campus makes it even better.”
The OGITECH bakery is currently situated within the school premises and operates under strict hygiene and safety standards. Staffed by trained personnel and supported by students from related departments such as Hospitality Management and Food Science, the facility serves as a real-time learning lab and income-generating venture.
A member of the project team disclosed that the bread comes in different sizes to suit various budgets, making it accessible to both students and residents of Igbesa town. “We are not only producing quality bread, but we are also encouraging local patronage and reducing dependency on outside suppliers,” he added.
The initiative has been welcomed by many as a smart and commendable development, especially in a time where practical skills and innovation are essential in higher education. There are also plans to expand production and introduce other baked goods in the near future.
With this new venture, OGITECH continues to set a strong example of how tertiary institutions can blend academic training with entrepreneurial ventures to benefit students and the local economy.
