Nigerian Polytechnic Students Threaten Nationwide MTN Shutdown Over Data Price Hike

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a strong warning to telecommunications giant MTN over its recent data tariff increase, calling it an unjustifiable move that threatens students’ access to education.
In a statement released by NAPS President, Comrade Festus Oyewumi, the association condemned the price hike, stating that it would significantly hinder students’ ability to conduct research, complete assignments, and access online resources.
“This blatant display of greed and disregard for the welfare of students is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement read.
NAPS has given MTN a 10-day ultimatum to reverse the tariff increase, warning that failure to comply will lead to mass protests and the shutdown of MTN offices nationwide. The association emphasized that students rely heavily on affordable data and will not stand by while their education is put at risk.
“We will not be silenced or intimidated. If MTN does not reverse this hike, we will mobilize our members and take to the streets,” the statement added.
The students’ union has vowed to fight for accessible and affordable internet services, urging MTN to reconsider its decision before the deadline expires.
