NANS Oyo Declares Statewide Protest Against Telecom Tariff Hike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State Axis, has announced a massive statewide protest against telecommunications companies, particularly MTN and Airtel, over a recent hike in data and call tariffs.
With the expiration of a two-week ultimatum given to telecom operators, NANS JCC is set to hit the streets on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, demanding an immediate reversal of the tariff increase. The protest, which will begin at 7 AM in Ibadan, Oyo State, will see students storming MTN offices across the state.
According to the student body, the tariff hike deepens the digital divide, making education and access to information more difficult for students. They argue that the increase threatens affordable internet access, a necessity for modern learning.
NANS has also called on youth organizations, civil society groups, and the general public to join in resisting what they describe as unfair pricing by telecom operators.
The students have vowed to mobilize across campuses and streets until their demands are met, urging authorities to intervene before the situation escalates.
