Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev is a state institution owned by the Benue State Government. It was founded in 1926 as a Farm Centre by the Colonial Administration.

In 1973, it was upgraded to a School of Agriculture offering programs leading to the award of Ordinary National Diploma (OND). In 1983, the Benue State Government upgraded it to a College of Agriculture and empowered it to award National and Higher National Diplomas (ND and HND respectively). 

The now Polytechnic was renamed Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture in 1992, in memory of the late paramount traditional ruler of Tivland where it is located, HRH Orchiviligh (Dr.) James Akperan Orshi, Tor Tiv III. History is indeed kind to us; on 10th June 2020, the State Government again upgraded the institution to a Polytechnic status, now called Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev (AOPOLY).
