KWCOED ILORIN HOLDS 19TH COMBINED CONVOCATION LECTURE

The Kwara State College of Education Ilorin today, Monday, 22nd January 2023 holds it 19th combined convocation lecture.
Opening the floor of the lecture, the Convocation Chairman who is also the Former Provost of KWCOED Ilorin, Prof. A.Y Abdulkareem expresses his delight in witnessing and hearing the news of developments happening in the college, especially the celebration of convocation at the appropriate time.
The Ag. Provost, Dr. Alhaji Ayinde Shehu Jawondo in his welcome speech appreciates the former provost, all retirees, management teams and college community for being present at the ceremony.
While delivering the speech, he noted that the convocation lecturer was chosen based on the intention to choose from the trained student of the citadel who has also made impactful contribution in the past, Thus choosing Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyy Jawondo becomes an avenue as he was a trained student of the college between 1986/1989, during those time he made sacrifices to the college.
The Convocation Lecturer Prof. Ibrahim AbdulGaniyy Jawondo who is also the Director for Centre of Peace and Strategic Studies (UNILORIN) diving into his lecture topic on Enhancing The Viability Of Teacher Education In Kwara State, The Challenges and Prospect says “without teachers no development can take place in the world” stating that teachers work for God and also work with God as God is the first and Supreme teacher of the universe citing from Q96:5. Thereby, encouraging the teachers to be more committed and dedicated to their duties.
Looking more into the challenges facing contemporary teacher’s education which includes impromptu educational reform, inadequate funding of education, low and delayed in the payment of teachers salaries ,among others.




In a bid to enhance teacher’s education, he advises the government not to strategically place educational sector under money making venture, recruite more teachers into tertiary institution to reduce the work load on lecturers for better work delivery,renumeration and dues should be paid at appropriate fixed time among other listed solutions to the challenges facing teachers education. On the final remark, he noted that teacher’s education should be free for all at all levels.
Finally, the College Registrar Honorable Yakubu Abdullahi Muhammed Lafiagi thank all the special guests, members and congregation of the ceremony for being present at the occasion and also specially appreciates the Convocation Lecturer for honouring the college invitation despite his very tight schedules.
