IMT ENUGU Students Union Visits Gov. Ugwuanyi After Wining National Debate Competition

It was indeed a moment of excitement at the Enugu State Government House on Saturday, 17th September 2022 as the entire leadership of the Students Union Government, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu stormed the Lion’s Building to say ‘Thank You to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi for the innumerable infrastructural development and many benefiting educational reforms his administration has brought to the Institute.

To present him with the trophy the school won in the just concluded National Debate organized by Monday Diamond Foundation in Abuja, where the school outperformed her counterparts from over 40 tertiary Institutions across the country to be crowned National Champion of the competition.

The President of the Union, Comr. Steve Nnaemeka while addressing the Governor marshaled out the immense contribution of the Governor in restoring the hope of the students through his educational intervention and infrastructural development in the Institute.

You may be pleased to know that through the intervention of His Excellency, internal roads in IMT leading from campus 1 to 3 were completely asphalted with adequate drainage systems. He equally saw to the construction and commissioning of so many Ultra modern classroom blocks and administrative blocks, hence enhancing academic activities in the Institution.

According to Comr. Steve, “Before your intervention, Your Excellency” our students hardly receive lectures in their classrooms during the rainy season due to leakages on the roofs. We find it difficult to pay attention to lectures due to the lack of carrying capacity of the old classrooms. The look of IMT was odd due to the effects of erosion. But, you came and brought our hopes back to live.”

“On the area of academic empowerment, you used Barr. Levis Uche Abonyi, the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship Board to resuscitate the spirit of IMT students by offering numerous scholarships to Engineering students. We’re thanking you for what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what you’ll do.”

“You gave us a formidable platform and as a means of supporting your good intentions towards IMT students, we capitalized on this platform to carry out the installation of modern solar-powered street lights along the road you built for us, from Campus 1 to 3. This project which is 70% complete is also means of reducing the risk of insecurity faced by IMT students at night.”

While presenting a meritorious award to the Students friendly Governor, as the “TRANSFORMER OF IMT ON EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION AND INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT”Comr. Steve stated that this is a little way of showing appreciation to him for restoring their value, pride and bringing their hopes back alive.

Seconding the President, the Speaker of IMT SUG Parliament, Sen. Michael Onwusi thanked his Excellency while attributing the victory of the school in the National Debate to be a testament to the light and hope the support of the Governor has rekindled in them which give them the boldness to pride themselves among other tertiary Institution of higher learning.

The Students Secretary General, Comr. Madubuike James and other people who spoke unanimously sang songs of solidarity to the People’s Governor as the SUG SSG also thanked his Excellency for his empowerment in the medical sector of the Institute.

The Governor while responding to the submissions of the Union heads with beaming smiles pointed out specifically the leadership prowess of the Union Executive, stressing that the Union President is visionary, peaceful, and sagacious whom under his watch, IMT has been the most peaceful Institute in the state. He appreciated the Union leaders for their good leadership styles and stated how proud he is to have been a Governor in their regime.

The People’s Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi commended the SUG President and the entire students for the tremendous progress they’ve achieved so far and appreciated them for supporting the government in Installing ultra-modern lights in the school, and assured them that the Government will partner with them because it’s an avenue to enhance security in the school.

He applauded the union greatly for their effort in attracting academic excellence to the State and revealed to them his plans to include IMT in the AVIATION  and MARINE training program of the State Government. He promised the students that his administration and the one to come had an agreement to support the school greatly as they are the face and pride of the State.

The Governor stated that in no distance time the government will provide the school with their demand of SUG BUS while urging them to remain law-abiding citizens and promoters of peace and unity.
