Ignatius Ajuru University Confirms Nearly 3,000 Students Benefited from NELFUND Loans

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, has confirmed that 2,946 of its students have received funding from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Onuchuku Onuchuku, made the announcement in a statement, describing the development as a major step toward easing the financial difficulties many students face. He revealed that an additional 1,400 students are still undergoing verification and are expected to benefit once their applications are cleared.
To ensure transparency, the university has published the full list of approved beneficiaries on its official website.
Professor Onuchuku also noted that students who had already paid their fees before the loan disbursement would be refunded, while those who had not yet completed their payments would have their portals updated to reflect the new status. He reassured students that no one would be denied access to essential services during the process.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the NELFUND scheme, highlighting its role in expanding access to higher education. He also acknowledged the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, for their contributions to the successful rollout of the initiative.
“The NELFUND disbursement has greatly reduced the financial burden on our students. It is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to empowering the next generation,” Professor Onuchuku said.
According to him, the loan scheme has not only provided immediate financial relief but has also renewed the confidence of students, enabling them to concentrate fully on their academic pursuits without financial distractions.
