How to Chop Loan App Money for Free Without Getting Defamed

Loan apps have become the savior of many Nigerians, especially in these hard economic times where even three square meals aren’t guaranteed. Whether you’re out of cash, gas don finish, school fees dey disturb, or you’re in need of urgent funds, loan apps seem like the fastest way out. Family and friends fit disappoint you when wahala show, but loan apps might just consider you — as long as your credit score looks convincing enough.

But what if you want to chop their money and avoid the embarrassment that comes with defaulting? What if you want to borrow but don’t want them dragging your name through the mud? If that’s your aim, then keep reading — because here are smart ways to collect loan app money without getting defamed.

1. Delete All Calls in Your Call Log Before Applying

Before you install any loan app or grant it access to your device, make sure you delete your entire call history — especially your frequently dialed contacts. Remove any trace of calls to your spouse, parents, or close friends. Once you grant access, most loan apps automatically upload your call logs to their servers. If you default on payment, that’s the same call list they’ll use to contact and threaten your loved ones. So, clear it first — and leave only irrelevant or strange numbers.

2. Delete All SMS Messages from Friends and Family

Loan apps can also collect data from your SMS inbox and outbox. If you’ve received messages from family or close contacts, delete them all before granting access. These loan sharks will comb through your inbox, fish out any familiar names, and use them to shame or blackmail you when repayment fails. Clear out everything, especially messages that show any kind of emotional or financial support from friends or relatives.

3. Dial Fake Numbers to Fill Up Your Call Log

If your call log is completely empty, some loan apps might reject your application outright. So here’s what to do: dial some random or fake numbers and ensure your call log looks active. The idea is simple — when you grant the app access, they will save those fake numbers as your emergency contacts. So when it’s time for threats and harassment, they’ll be disturbing wrong numbers, not your real people.

4. Understand the New Google Play Store Privacy Policy

Google has updated its privacy rules. Loan apps from the Play Store can no longer access your phonebook contacts directly — not from your SIM and not from your Google account. However, they can still access your call logs and SMS, especially if you give permission. To protect yourself further, back up your real contacts to Google Cloud and replace your phone’s contact list with fake or useless numbers before applying. That way, even if they try anything, there’s nobody real to reach.

5. Don’t Apply for Loans from Apps That Already Have Your Call Log

If you’ve previously granted any loan app access to your call logs, don’t go back to them — especially if you know you can’t pay the money back. Your data is already saved in their system, and they’ll use it against you when you default. Stick with newer apps. And before applying, repeat the process — clear your logs, call fake numbers, and avoid using your real SIM when necessary.

6. Always Clear Your Call Logs Before Opening a Loan App

This one is key. Even after getting the loan, continue clearing your call history. Anytime you open the app, it can update your call logs to their database again — especially if auto-permissions are still active. Stay smart. Make it a habit to clean out your phone regularly.

7. Remove Your SIM or Divert Your Calls if Harassment Begins

If loan apps start calling nonstop or sending threatening messages, take action. Use call forwarding to divert their calls or just remove your SIM card for the meantime. Once they realize your number is no longer reachable, they may calm down and shift their focus. No be every fight you go fight directly — sometimes, silence is the best weapon.

What’s the Worst a Loan App Can Do?

The highest they can do is threaten, embarrass, or try to defame you using your contacts. Licensed loan apps won’t go that far, but unlicensed ones — especially loan sharks — will try anything. In some cases, your BVN could be flagged or blacklisted, which might affect your ability to get loans from formal institutions in the future. But for the average app on the street? That’s the worst they can do. No be prison matter.

Can a Loan App Arrest You If You Default?

No! Loan default is a civil matter — not a criminal one. No loan app can legally arrest you for owing money. Still, try to pay back what you owe, even if it’s small small. A good credit score may help you access more serious opportunities in the future. But don’t let fear push you to do something drastic.

If you’re currently owing a loan app, know this — you are not alone. Many Nigerians are in the same boat. Don’t let their threats push you into depression or make you think of suicide. Dust yourself up, focus on bouncing back, and stop the cycle of borrowing from one app to pay another. You can rebuild. Just move smart and stay ahead of them.
