How to Accept Polytechnic Admission on JAMB CAPS
How to Accept Polytechnic Admission on JAMB CAPS
After months of checking your admission status and refreshing your email or JAMB profile, you finally see that you’ve been offered admission into a polytechnic. It’s a big moment. But what comes next? Many candidates lose their admission simply because they didn’t accept it the right way.
If you’ve been offered admission on the JAMB CAPS portal, you must actively accept it. Until you do, the admission is not officially confirmed—even if the polytechnic itself has uploaded your name. This process is simple but extremely important, and if you skip it or make a mistake, your admission can be revoked.
Here’s everything you need to know to accept your polytechnic admission on the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).
What is JAMB CAPS and Why It Matters
JAMB CAPS (Central Admission Processing System) is an online platform developed by JAMB to ensure a transparent admission process. Through CAPS, schools send their admission offers to candidates, and those candidates must accept or reject the offer to finalize the process.
Even if a polytechnic has your name on their admission list or website, your admission is not valid until you confirm it through CAPS. That’s why checking CAPS regularly and understanding how to use it matters more than ever.
When Should You Accept Admission on CAPS?
As soon as you see “Admission Offered” on your CAPS dashboard, take action immediately. Some schools and JAMB set deadlines, and if you don’t respond on time, they may withdraw your offer and give it to someone else.
It’s not enough to just view the message—you have to click “Accept” or “Reject.” If you accept, the portal locks that admission as your choice, and you can move forward with registration and clearance. If you reject it, the system will free you up for another school to consider.
Step-by-Step: How to Accept Your Polytechnic Admission on JAMB CAPS
Here’s how to safely and correctly accept your polytechnic admission on the JAMB CAPS portal.
Step 1: Go to the JAMB e-Facility Website
Open a browser and visit the JAMB e-Facility portal at https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng Use only official JAMB websites to avoid being scammed or misled.
Step 2: Log in with Your JAMB Profile
Enter your email address and password—the same ones used during your JAMB registration. Once logged in, you’ll be taken to your personal dashboard.
Step 3: Click on “Check Admission Status”
Scroll through your dashboard and look for the option called “Check Admission Status.”
Click on it. You’ll then see your exam year and JAMB registration number already filled in. If not, select the correct year and enter your reg number manually. Then click “Access my CAPS.”
Step 4: Open the Admission Status Tab
You’ll now be redirected to the CAPS portal. Look to the left-hand side of the screen and click on “Admission Status.” This is where you’ll see the current state of your admission. If a polytechnic has offered you admission, the status will show “Congratulations, you have been offered admission.” If no school has admitted you yet, it may say “Admission in progress” or “Not admitted.”
Step 5: Accept the Admission Offer
Just below your admission status, you’ll see two buttons: “Accept” and “Reject.”
Click on “Accept” only if you are satisfied with the offer.
Once you click accept, you cannot undo it.
Be sure that:
- You want to study the course listed
- You are happy with the institution
- You are not waiting for admission into another school
If you’re okay with it, click accept. A confirmation message will pop up. Click “Yes” to finalize. That’s it — your admission has now been secured officially.
What Happens After Accepting Admission on CAPS
After you accept the offer, the system will update your status and lock it in place.
Next steps include:
- Printing your JAMB admission letter (from the same JAMB portal)
- Visiting the polytechnic’s official website to check for acceptance fee payment and registration deadlines
- Getting your documents ready for physical clearance (O’Level results, birth certificate, local government ID, etc.)
- Waiting for orientation or resumption date updates from the school
Common Problems Candidates Face on CAPS
Admission Not Showing: Sometimes, even if a school posts your name on their website, the CAPS portal may still say “Not Admitted.” This could be because the polytechnic has not uploaded your details to JAMB yet. In such cases, wait and keep checking back regularly.
Accept Button Not Working: This issue often occurs on mobile phones. If the CAPS page is blank or the buttons don’t respond, switch your browser to desktop mode or use a computer.
Wrong Course Displayed: Occasionally, candidates notice that the course shown on CAPS is different from the one they applied for. This happens during change of course processing. If you see a course that you’re okay with, go ahead and accept it. If not, contact the institution.
What If You Reject the Admission Offer?
If you reject the offer, JAMB will mark your profile as open and available for other institutions. However, this doesn’t guarantee you’ll receive another offer.
Only reject if:
- You’ve been promised admission elsewhere
- You plan to defer or reapply next year
- You want to change your course or institution entirely
Otherwise, rejecting can be risky.
