Federal Poly, Ilaro matriculates 8,740 Students

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, has matriculated 8,740 new students for National Diploma and Higher National Diploma courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the Rector, Dr. M. A. Akinde, charged the new students to share the vision of the institution to be a world-class institution and essentially abide by the core values of integrity, resilience, hard work, innovativeness, creativity, and excellence that have made it their first choice.
He added, “It is imperative that you give total attention to your studies, make the best use of the hands-on training opportunities you are going to be afforded to acquire life-long skills that will make you ultimately self-sufficient, and essentially justify your selection out of the lot that have sought admission to our noble institution.
“The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, keying into Nigeria’s 2050 agenda’s strategies for innovation and enterprise as the means for unleashing the potentials of young people, has established the Entrepreneurship Development and Skill Acquisition Centre EDASAC.
“The centre affords opportunities for skill acquisition in areas such as welding and fabrication, electrical installations, website design, equipment, cell phone and computer repairs, aluminium works, catering services, bag making, block moulding and interlocking stones making, shoemaking, beads and wire works, and venue decoration, among others. It also offers the opportunity for generating good, unique, and innovative business ideas and the development of various trades. It is compulsory for all students to choose any of the available vocational skills”.
“Moreover, the Polytechnic has established an Innovation Centre in order to nurture the capacity of students with respect to the knowledge and skills of programming, drone manufacturing and flying, and equipment manufacturing requisite for eliminating human labour-intensive repetitive tasks, essentially preparing students for the disruptive demands of the future of work and the unfolding fourth and fifth industrial revolutions. It will interest you to note that the centre, with students of Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science, recently produced biometric devices for attendance at classrooms and examinations and electric tricycles with a full complement of batteries, solar systems, front and reverse gear systems.



While urging the new students to be law abiding, Dr. Akinde enjoined them to “show reverence for constituted authority, and exhibit a high sense of discipline in your pursuit of academic success. You should not, in any way, be involved in any activity that will portray the institution in a bad light.
