EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE (EDE POLY)

BRIEF HISTORY.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede came into existence in February 1992, vide Decree No. 33 of 25th July, 1979 as amended by Decree 5 of 1993. The functions of the Polytechnic as specified in the decree. The Polytechnic took over the old Baptist Teachers College from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which served as the Orientation Camp for the Corps members. This was achieved with the cooperation of Ede Local Government and Osun State Ministry of Education. With the arrival of the Pioneer Rector, Chief Jimi Bamgbose from the United States of America, the Polytechnic took off properly in January 1993 and this subsequently paved way for the admission of 847 students (pioneer students) on 13th April 1993. The Polytechnic is one of the best in Southwest Nigeria and also one of the fastest Polytechnic in Nigeria.

EDE POLYTECHNIC COMMUNITY.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede is located in Ede local government of Osun state, the community is peaceful and 40% of people in the community are students and the Other 60% are either indigenes or people who came for business. Although the Polytechnic community is facing insecurity challenges in recent times however, as at the time of this report, the Polytechnic community is peaceful and both academic activities and non-academic activities are going on smoothly in the Polytechnic and the Polytechnic community.

PROGRAMMES AVAILABLE AT THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE.

Federal Polytechnic Ede basically run three (3) programmes which are; FULL TIME (FT), DAILY PART TIME (DPT) and Regular part time (RPT).

1. FULL TIME PROGRAMME.

The Full-time Programme is a programme for students admitted on merits that is, National Diploma (ND) candidates who scored at least 120 in their UTME and also passed the POST UTME exams. HND candidates who passed the CBT entrance examination would be admitted into full Time programme. Full time programme school fees are cheap and affordable and lectures for full-time programme starts as early as 7am and 8am depending on department. Only candidates who scored 120 and above in their UTME and passed the Polytechnic POST UTME exams and meet up with the Polytechnic departmental cut off mark would be admitted into full time programme.

Federal Polytechnic Ede Full-time programme school Fees is one of the cheapest in the southwest although the school management recently increased tuition fees for 2021/2022 academic session but still the Polytechnic remains one of the cheapest in the southern Nigeria. The duration for Full-time programme at the Federal Polytechnic Ede is two(2) years, that is, within two years you will be ND/HND graduate.

2. DAILY PART TIME PROGRAMME.

The Daily Part time programme is a programme for students who didn’t meet-up with the school departmental cut off mark, this programme is like second option or alternative for students that which to gain admission to the Polytechnic. Daly Part Time (DPT) programme is just like the full-time programme and the only differences is school fees, class allocation and lecture hours. Federal Polytechnic Ede Daily part time programme is very expensive. The duration for Daily Part time (DPT) programme at the Federal Polytechnic Ede is two(2) years.

3. REGULAR PART-TIME PROGRAMME (RPT).

The regular part time programme is entirely different from full time and DPT programme, the duration for Regular part time (RPT) progrmme is three(3) Years. Lectures are on weekends and this programme is for the working-class students. The school fees are also expensive.

ACCOMMODATION AT THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE.

There are two types of accommodation at the federal Polytechnic Ede; Hostel Accommodation and off-campus Accommodation. The Hostel accommodation is an accommodation system Managed by the school management, that is, the school hostels also known as hall of residence. The cost for the school hostel is 10k per bed space for a session.

OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION SYSTEM.

These are accommodation outside the Polytechnic, that is, if you don’t want to live in the school hostel then you would have to seek accommodation outside the campus and guess what? Accommodation at the federal Polytechnic Ede community Is very cheap depending on your pocket. Single room in Ede costs from #30,000 to #45,000 upward while self-contain costs between #70,000 upward Per Year.

The popular areas dominated by students in the Polytechnic community are Agbale, Ogberin, Adogbe and Ilori area among others. We recommend you choose accommodation in these areas as you will enjoy your stay there.

EDE POLY SCHOOL FEES.

HND FULL TIME – #49,800

HND DAILY PART TIME = #95,350

ND FULL-TIME = #51,800

ND PART TIME (DPT) = #97,300

Apart from registration fees, other fees paid by students are “Integrated fees” which varies depending on the department and the least is #7,000 and highest is #9,000 plus SUG due which is just #1,000 only.

ADMISSION INTO FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE.

Candidates Can gain admission into the federal Polytechnic Ede with or without Jamb. Daily part time (DPT) and Regular Part-time (RPT) programme does not require jamb however you may need to visit jamb office for regularization. This means if you don’t meet up with the school cut off mark, you can still gain admission to The Federal Polytechnic Ede through the Daily Part time (DPT) programme which is 2years or the regular part-time (RPT) programme which is three(3) Years. General Cut Off Mark for Admission Consideration Is 120.

HANDOUTS AND TEXTBOOK.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede sells handouts and textbook to students and most times the lecturers give out materials to students to Make the photocopy which means buying of handouts and textbooks isn’t made compulsory in the Polytechnic.
